There are many social networks and niche bookmarking services that exist. A true social search search should ultimately connect with multiple social network APIs in order deliver results that have been shared or saved the most across multiple social networks.

Digg and slashdot are, or have been, the most popular social networks for people that live and breathe technology news. If I wanted to find out news about Cisco systems, I would want my social search engine to show me the content that's been shared or bookmarked the most across these niche networks.

As a British Asian, with African-Indian parents, I grew up watching Bollywood remakes of western block busters. India has always been rich with original culture, however, indians themselves have always perceived western culture as an import that's more prestigious, valuable and cool.

You still see indian Jonny Bravo types that try to imitate the west, but now, after so long, I'm seeing indian literature, music, and film that's original something to be proud of.

Good post, but I'm not sure if I agree if with the notion that high culture is a part of mainstream culture. High culture is a way of life the for the privileged, who are, in most cases, a minority.

I like Silobreaker, but I think the tool is limited as it only provides network analysis and general analysis for predefined topics and company names. Perhaps there should be an option to suggest a topic for analysis or browse through topics related to a keyword.

The ability to research active topics, surrounding a particular keyword or theme, can provide very compelling insights; however, if time is of the essence, I’m not sure a tool like SiloBreaker could potentially be the most effective solution—especially if lengthy data processing is involved.

I’ve been using Snow Leopard at home and, recently, Windows 7 at the office and, although I hate to say it, Windows 7 has been very easy to use and it applies video card driven graphics to most trivial UI prompts.

I like what have GMP have done, but i the work shouldn’t stop at a brief experiment. The three GMP accounts demonstrate that there is, indeed, an interest for incident information; therefore, progression should adopt the forms of community managers who continue what has been started, but at slower pace, only delivering key incidents and managing the expectations of local media.

As a techie I'm going to have to disagree with this prediction. A person looking for a Cash ISA is still going to be searching for a Cash ISA even if the results are going to be served instantly.

What may possibly change is the amount traffic spammers receive. Search insiders know that the first 6 positions in the SERPs gain the most traffic; therefore, as the search experience speeds up, white-hat SEOs will work harder to climb up the SERPs and push the spammers down.

Something is going on under the Google hood. In last 6 months I have seen the Page Rank of blogs fall by two-to-three scores on several sites. Google instant will certainly be accompanied by more algorithm updates and I think the introductions of realtime and indexing of socnet updates will have effects on overall ranking and ranking factors.

Google have single handedly wiped many of the free social search apps off the map with this single tool. I think development is important as it changes the reputation and buzz monitoring landscape dramatically.

Interesting points here. My personal media consumption mirrors some of Steve's comments. I read and subscribe to a handful of niche publications and I typically use two news providers (Guardian and Channel 4 news) in order to stay connected to broader world news.

i'm just getting back into RSS, after a long time off, but I have a specific work-related purpose for it now. My previous attempts of using it drove me insane as I often felt like I wasn't staying on top of incoming updates. Many people at the time were sharing similar sentiments and "information overload" was frequently mentioned in pub chats.

Email marketing has developed a negative image due to many brands misusing it. Some of the most effective marketeers are still not fully utilising email as they're still mindlessly spamming me! Now I'm not an email marketing expert, like @miketeasdale, but I think email now needs to do same as other marketing methods and actually deliver value.

I think it's a strange situation. Broadcast media keeps evolving and stays creative, but email, a relatively new communication media, has reached an effectiveness plateau. Some of us spend a lot of our working days in email and for this reason I'd like to see creatives and digital thinkers use it more creatively.

Not sure how I feel about this app. It's designed well but it encourages people to write lists, which have been shown to hinder creativity in comparison to mind mapping or drawing tools. Ideally the tool should allow people to build stories and visuals around the tasks they're trying to complete.

I like how this concept designer has utilised the iPad to provide a complimentary user experience of what's on a main screen. It reminds me of how you could use your PSP as rear view mirror for the driving games on the PS3. I can imagine using the iPad as a huge interactive control centre for my programming: split screen views during sports games, live tweets to compliment the news and homeplayer functionality on game shows.
