He’s your real nuts and bolts kind of guy as he used to be mechanic. He’ll soon be attending his second college course that will teach him how to use them their komputers and t’interent.

I was having an IM chat with a mate today who is trying to learn something new. They said a very dirty word:

“Can’t”.

Really??

The Internet business – now more then ever – requires us to be multi-disciplined individuals. If you can do X, you better have a damn good clue about what Y is. Call me cliché but I just don’t believe in the word “can’t”. I have a (occasionally detrimental) blind enthusiasm that facilitates my learning of new things, and I don’t I fear sacrificing time.

Everybody is trying to climb their own personal:

I’m probably only a quarter of the way up and somewhere along the way I’ve dropped my pickaxe too.

The web is such an open information resource for enthusiastic people; the missing ingredients to any remedy that helps you overcome challenges are time and patience.

So, the next time you’re having a “I can’t” moment, take a deep breath and grow some:

I was inspired today by a colleague on our team who’s completed an MA in Business and Marketing to balance her knowledge, after studying an arts degree. She works in SEM and she optimistically seeks to broaden her skills in the future.

A true sign of patience and enthusiasm, I love meeting people this energetic.

I was a proud brother today, I attended my sisters graduation. Rakhi graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Sports Studies, she is now one step closer to her dream of owning her own kiddy fat camp.

Sitting in St Albans Cathedral brought back memories of my own graduation whilst simultaneously reminding me of how fast the internet/technology sector is moving.

There are now so many new internet/media/technology courses available, these courses were just not around when I was selecting my options. I sound like an old man but it actually wasn’t that long ago!

As the graduates queued to pick up their certificates they were also receiving awards and merits from the likes of Sony and other large tech companies. By providing Universities with extensive corporate funding and intelligence, the tech companies are literally “getting them whilst they’re young”. This is a clear sign that they’re out to obtain the best of breed in order to continue providing creativity and innovation.

Creativity and innovation were the key themes of the Deans’ speech who went on to talk about how creativity and innovation will steer the UK out of economic recession. I couldn’t agree more to be honest, some of the best advertising, creative media planning and artwork in the world originate from London. Knowing that corporations recognise this and are funding it at an academic level (be it for their own benefit) makes me glad because it’s reassurance that the UK and London will carry on being one of most creative and innovate outlets in the world.

Enjoy today’s pic taken on St Albans High Street, maybe Nothern Rock should have asked the neighbors for help.

Ever stuck in the middle of a sentence and not sure what word to use? If you’re anything like me you probably haven’t done an english degree or swallowed an dictionary recently, thinking about the right words to use in sentences doesn’t always come naturally.

The problems don’t stop there as reading tech/design/marketing blogs and magazines do not improve your vocabulary either.

So as nerdy as it sounds I’ve gone back to using a tried and tested method of expanding my vocabulary, good old “word of the day”.

Merriam-Webster have a good word of the day page on their website and if you’re using a Mac running Leopard you can use Safari to create a web-clip and dashboard widget.
